Why a contact database struggles with local

Apollo is excellent at something, and this is not it.

Apollo describes its database as 240M+ people and 30M+ companies with a 98% email accuracy rate, sold at Free $0, Basic $49 per user per month, Professional $79 and Organization $119 on annual billing with a three user minimum. For selling software to companies with employee records, that is a strong product and this page is not an argument against it.

Local is a different data problem. A two person plumbing firm has no employee directory, the owner has no corporate profile to collect, and when the business changes hands or closes nobody updates the stored record. So you get thin coverage on the listings you can see on a map, and records that were true at collection time. The alternatives below all solve that by going to the map and the website instead of to a database.

Four local focused alternatives. Competitor figures read from each company's own site on 15 September 2026.

1. LeadFindr

The closest thing to Apollo's job, done from the live web instead of a database.

LeadFindr finds the local business and the person behind it. The business search reads Google Maps listings for a niche and a city and opens each website while the search runs to take the contact details from the page. The people search takes a role, an industry and a location and returns the decision maker with a LinkedIn profile and a verified work email where one is found. That second half is what most people are actually trying to get out of Apollo when they search a local niche.

Billing is per lead: 0.25 credits, about $0.025, for a lead with contact details, nothing for one without, no seats and no subscription. Where it loses to Apollo: no sequences, no dialer, no CRM suite, no public API, and access is early access by request.

2. Scrap.io

A monthly Google Maps allowance for teams that search daily.

Scrap.io searches, exports and enriches Google Maps business data on a subscription: EUR 49 a month for 10,000 credits up to EUR 499 for 100,000 on monthly billing, cheaper yearly, credits that do not roll over, with search radius and business type limits by tier, plus an API and MCP access. If you want a predictable monthly ceiling on a local data pipeline and you will use the allowance, it fits.

3. Outscraper

Cheap rows for research and coverage work.

Outscraper is pay as you go bulk scraping of Google Maps: first 500 businesses free, then $3 per 1,000 records and $1 per 1,000 above 100,000, with email and contact enrichment priced per 1,000 domains. It is the cheapest way here to see an entire category in a region, and the output is raw, so the verification step stays yours.

4. D7 Lead Finder

Volume by the day, if breadth is what you were missing.

D7 Lead Finder covers any category in any country with up to 1,200 leads per search, on monthly plans sized by daily searches: 10 a day on Starter for roughly 3,500 leads, 30 on Agency for roughly 10,000, 100 on Professional for roughly 30,000, with 5 free searches a day shown to guests. The prices were not visible on its public plan chooser when we checked.

FAQ

Questions People Actually Ask.

Why do Apollo emails bounce for local businesses?

Because a database records what was true when the record was collected, and local businesses change hands, rebuild their sites and close without telling anyone. Reading the business's own live page at search time closes that gap.

What is the best Apollo alternative for finding local business owners?

LeadFindr, because it returns both the business from its Google Maps listing and the decision maker behind it with a verified work email where one is found, and charges 0.25 credits only for leads that came back contactable.

Is there a free Apollo alternative?

Apollo itself has a free plan at $0. Among these alternatives, Outscraper gives the first 500 businesses free each month, and a new LeadFindr account starts with 100 credits, which is 400 leads.

Do these tools send outreach like Apollo?

No. LeadFindr, Scrap.io, Outscraper and D7 Lead Finder find data. Sending is a separate tool, which is also why they cost a fraction of a per seat sales platform.
